The works of the Madrid artist Chema Madoz have always gone to the limit of optical illusion and fantasy.

Catherine Coleman, curator of the exhibition at the fsm, writes: ‘Chema Madoz has based his  photographic poetry on the iconography of everyday objects, against a background of the four elements (water, fire, air and earth). Madoz distorts the natural characteristics of these elements, or uses the same qualities to accentuate a particular aspect of the object in question to create a different effect. This combination is expressed within a frame that often challenges our concept of space and time’.
