Festival dei Popoli 2014
Evento inserito nella rassegna (eng) Reality is More
The 55th Festival dei Popoli, running from 29 November through 5 December 2014, offers the best of international documentary film. The programme includes 83 documentaries from around the world, divided into sections: International Competition (Italian premières of short, medium and feature-length films); Panorama (a section dedicated to Italian films); Special Events (highly entertaining films and contemporary topics); a retrospective dedicated to the Dutch director Jos de Putter, a talented storyteller, and a spotlight on the French director Vincent Dietrue, who depicted Italy from the 1970s to today. This year’s event features two new, non-competitive sections: Sui generi(s), a selection of documentaries that reinvent the great classical genres, whether western, horror, science-fiction or erotica; and Reality is More, which presents true stories that stretch beyond our imagination. The section “The Trades of Cinema” highlights Dominique Auvray, the film editor favoured by such great directors as Marguerite Duras, Wim Wenders, Philippe Garrel, Vincent Dieutre and many others. The festival will also feature Doc at Work, offering a co-production market where projects and rough-cuts will be presented to international experts, as well as workshops and talks with film-makers. To help viewers choose the films they won’t want to miss, the festival programme groups the films by theme: art, fashion, the family, the environment, politics and contemporary topics. Once again, the slogan of this year’s festival is “Reality is More”, underlining the importance of documenting reality and everyday life as a political act.
