Cango is an innovative centre dedicated to the languages of the body and to the contemporary arts. During the course of the last century, the historic building that now hosts Cango, has been the base for the theatrical activity of Gordon Craig, Tadeusz Kantor and Vittorio Gassman. Today, after a restoration lasting more than 20 years, the Florence City Council has entrusted the space to Virgilio Sieni as a space of creation.
CANGO, thanks to the functionality and elasticity of empty spaces, completely adapted and equipped to hold performance practice, is the permanent base of organisation and production for the Compagnia Virgilio Sieni, where activity includes the presentation of work-in-progess and training for young dancers and the public. CANGO is also an open meeting point for the international and Italian artists who are its periodic guests; it is not a container for events: rather is an observatory of the most current and exciting processes of artistic development. It promotes an ongoing encounter between artists and the public, working towards the creation of a permanent forum for a sustained and varied contemporary culture.
